Due to insistent public demand, the world renowned dancing inmates of Cebu finally had their own version of Psy's Gangnam Style music video.<br />
<br />
Despite the heavy rain yesterday afternoon, Sept. 29, 2012 at least a thousand inmates of the Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center (CPDRC) entertained guests with their ecstatic adoption of the Guinness World Record holder for the "Most Liked in YouTube." Credits to Mark Anthony Bautista for taking the video.<br />

<span style="background-color: white; font-family: sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 19.200000762939453px;">Is an annual festival in the northern city of Bogo that showcases their delicious delicacy the pintos. Barangays all around Bogo City jive up together to form 5 cluster tribes. ‘Kuyayang’ is a courtship dance of the Bogohanons that is staged before the community during fiestas. This street mardi gras as a cultural tourism festival of Bogo manifests the cultural heritage of the town and serves as an avenue for cultural conservancy of the city.</span></div>

<span style="background-color: white; font-family: sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 19.200000762939453px;">The plebiscite for the cityhood of Bogo was held on 16 June 2007. After few hours of canvassing, 97.82% of voters of Bogo voted for "yes" for cityhood. Former representative Clavel Asas-Matinez announced that the cityhood of Bogo has been ratified. It became the sixth component city of Cebu province.</span></div>

On 19 November 2008, the City of Bogo was demoted along with 2 other cities in Cebu and 13 other cities in the Philippines. The Supreme Court ruled out that the 16 cities did not pass the requirements for cityhood.<a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bogo,_Cebu#cite_note-Demotion-0" style="background-image: none; background-position: initial initial; background-repeat: initial initial; color: #0b0080; text-decoration: none; white-space: nowrap;">[1]</a></div>

On December 10, 2008, Bogo and the other 15 cities affected filed a motion for reconsideration with the Supreme Court. More than a year later, on December 22, 2009, acting on said appeal, the Court reversed its earlier ruling as it ruled that <i>"at the end of the day, the passage of the amendatory law</i> (regarding the criteria for cityhood as set by Congress) <i>is no different from the enactment of a law, i.e., the cityhood laws specifically exempting a particular political subdivision from the criteria earlier mentioned. Congress, in enacting the exempting law/s, effectively decreased the already codified indicators. SC reverses self, upholds creation of 16 cities As such, the cityhood status of Bogo is effectively restored.</i></div>

On August 27, 2010, Bogo lost its city status again. It shared this fate with 15 other cities after the Supreme Court voted 7-6, with two justices not taking part, to reinstate a 2008 decision declaring as “unconstitutional" the Republic Acts (RAs) that converted 16 municipalities into cities. A previous law required towns aspiring to become cities to earn at least P100 million annually, which none of the 16 did.</div>

On February 15, 2011, the Supreme Court upheld for the third time the cityhood of Bogo and 15 other towns in the Philippines. </div>

As of June 2011, an Entry of Judgement which states that Bogo City and 15 other LGUs' cityhood laws are all constitutional. This entry of judgement ended the cityhood battle of Bogo.</div>

Manlayag is one of the mountainous barangay in Danao City. It is composed of three sites- Manlayag Patag, Manlayag Bungtod and Manlayag Kawayan. Many foreigners visited in this place before just to witnessed the mountain bike race to be joined by the bikers in different countries. It is mostly done every month of July. However, due to some reason, it is no longer now a spot of mountain bike race, but in spite of that, still barangay Manlayag is a much spoken place for its very nice and exciting sceneries. It is a place where you can find peace in mind and heart that’s why it is suit for those people who wants to find themselves from unwanted and unexpected problems. <br />

On the other hand, even how nice the thing or place it was, there’s always a counterpart negative portrayal. Some of the people said that Manlayag is known for its supernatural well being just like manananggal, aswang and many others which is a fallacious presumption for there wasn’t even a single evidence to prove that they were really existing in the said place. As a matter of fact, people living in Manlayag were religious individual and aside from that they were approachable too. Late 1990’s, there was a miracle happened in Manlayag. Mama Mary did her miracle inside the cave that’s why many people from the other place took a visit in there and they together brought a small container to be filled by a water in the spring located beside in Mama Mary’s image for they believe that it can heal different ailments. Until now, people in Manlayag offer a prayer inside the cave.<br />

Along its coastline, there is spot called Silot. Here, bathers are cautioned not to swim to a certain point because of a whirlpool caused by the ebb and tide of the waters which flow from an inland lake. This phenomenon is called lilo in Cebuano. Because of this, the town was known as Liloan, a place where there is lilo.</span></div><div style="line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 0.5em; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0.4em;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 19px;">The word Liloan, as the legend is told, comes from the word “lilo” - whirling waters (not unlike Edgar Allan Poe’s maelstrom) that form when the sea approaches an abrupt depth at a point just after a bridge.</span></div><div style="line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 0.5em; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0.4em;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 19px;">Long ago, as the legend goes, when Lilo-an was still a wilderness, a marriage of a couple was objected to by the parents. As such, they boarded a boat and fled to a far away place. Somewhere at sea, a storm overtook them. For safety, they entered a channel, now called “Suba,” (a name of a place in Liloan) and proceeded into the interior. They took shelter at its bank and noticed the abundance of the fish in the vicinity. They decided to stay, and with the extra fish they caught, they sold or bartered the catch in the nearby villages. When asked where the fishes were caught, the answered, “Sa may liloan” (by the lilo). Asked where they live, they gave the same answer, :Sa may liloan.” In time, the place was called, as we know the town now, “Liloan”.</span></div><div style="line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 0.5em; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0.4em;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 19px;">Sometime in the 1970’s, a newspaper article stated that the “Pueblo de Lilo-an” was separated from the Municipality of Mandaue (now Mandaue City), and was created a new municipality in 1840. Compostela was among the early barrios of the Municipality of Danao established by Captain del Rosario. The newly establish barrio was named Compostela upon the suggestion of Father Jose Alonzo, a Roman Catholic friar who, by some historical account, reportedly came from the town of Compostela in Spain and brought along with him the image of the town’s patron saint, Senor Santiago de Apostol, Subsequently thereafter, Father Alonzo was designated as the first parish priest of the newly established barrio of Compostela. Adopting Senor Santiago de Apostol as the parish patron saint, Father Alonzo spearheaded the construction of the parish chapel out of light materials. As the population grew, the Spanish church authorities decided to elevate the chapel into a church so that in the year 1866 the Roman Catholic Church was constructed in the same site replacing the old chapel. Since then up to the present time, the same structure continues to be the major place of worship among the Catholic faithfuls in Compostela.</span><br />

As a consequence, the Treaty of Parish facilitated the reorganization and reclassification of all local government units in the country in accordance with their population and income. The actual reorganization which took place in 1903 resulted in the secession of Compostela to the Municipality of Liloan. In the year 1918, Compostela was finally considered to be converted into a municipality when a special committee headed by Hilario Kanen, thru Cebu Provincial Governor Manuel Roa, made representations to Hon. Sergio Osmena Sr., Speaker of the Philippine Assembly, to sponsor a bill creating the Municipality of Compostela. A year later, on that fateful 17th day of January 1919, Compostela officially became a municipality.</span><br />

It was originally a settlement called Bugho. But because of a language barrier, it was changed to Carmen.</span></div><div align="JUSTIFY"><span style="font-family: Arial;">The story relates that a woman-resident of Bugho who was about to be baptized in the Catholic rites, was already wearing a scapular with the inscription of the Virgen of Carmen. Before the Baptismal ceremonies, the Spanish scribe asked her in his native tongue the name of the village. Thinking that he was curious about the medallion she readily answered: Carmen. The Spaniard began calling the place Carmen and it has been since called.</span></div><div align="JUSTIFY"><span style="font-family: Arial;">Carmen has a favorite legend about strange spirits dwelling in its mountains:</span><br />
<a name='more'></a></div><div align="JUSTIFY"><span style="font-family: Arial;">There lived in Mt. Cantipay a mountain deity called Pipay. Mt. Cansaquiring was also inhabited by another mountain spirit, Saring. Both had magical powers and both were generous and helpful. But they could also be severe and exacting when they were disobeyed.</span></div><div align="JUSTIFY"><span style="font-family: Arial;">On those days, betrothed couples who cannot afford to buy wedding dresses and other necessities would only have to write on paper what they needed and place them at the mouth of either cave in the two mountains. But the strict rule was that every piece of article be returned.</span></div><div align="JUSTIFY"><span style="font-family: Arial;">There came a time when the borrowers did not bother to return what they got and so earned the wrath of the goddesses. </a></div><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">There is no concrete record to support the story on how Danao got its name. Although in the 1960’s there were circularized copies of a story concerning the early founding of Danao, but the contents and substance were but clear reproduction of an old legendary version which related of a Spanish Captain by the name of Manuel Aniceto del Rosario who, as the story went, was commissioned by the early Spanish authorities in the province of Cebu to establish municipalities starting from what is now Danao City towards the northern part of Cebu as far as what is now presently the municipality of Borbon.</span><br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
<div align="left"><span style="font-family: Arial;">This developed when in compliance with his commission, Capt. Del Rosario went to said places to perform his duties. Riding on a horse on his way to the north after a place called Cotcot, he came upon a few natives who were resting and taking time bathing their carabaos in one of the many lakes in the area. Dismounting from his horse, the Captain took his rest and in a short while struck conversation with the surprised natives. Pointing vertically his forefinger to the ground where they stood, the captain inquired just what was the name of the place, with the impression that the stranger might have asked the name of the small lakes where their carabaos were resting, one of the native instantly replied: "DANAWAN" (a Cebuano dialect for small lake) which, according to the story, on account of the Captain’s defective sense of hearing, only heard and recorded the first syllable DA-NAO. Thus begun the early naming of the place <b>DANAO</b></span></div><div align="left"><br />
</div><div align="left"><b><span style="font-family: Arial;">Geographic Location</span></b></div><div align="left"><span style="font-family: Arial;">Danao is located in the northern part of Cebu facing the Camotes Islands. It lies in the eastern coast between Compostela and Carmen and bounded on the west by the municipalities of Balamban, Asturias and Tuburan. It is 8.20 kilometers from Carmen to the North; 97.0 kilometers from Balamban (via Toledo City); 92.14 kilometers from Asturias (via Lugo); 7.80 kilometers from Compostela to the South; and 33.1 kilometers from Cebu City, reckoned from kilometer 00.0 at the Cebu Provincial Capitol Building.</span></div><div align="left"><br />
</div><div align="left"><b><b><span style="font-family: Arial;">Topography</span></b></b></div><div align="left"><span style="font-family: Arial;">The city is about 3.43 meters above the main area level. Generally, it has flat to rolling terrain with slopes ranging from 0% to 65%. Most of the flat or nearly level areas are found along the narrow coastal plains running from north to south and estimated to be 36% of the total land area. These narrow areas extend to a width of approximately less than five kms. Inland. These flat areas are now planted with sugarcane to serve as raw materials for the sugar mills located at Dunggo-an. Rolling hills, which ranged in elevation from 250 meters to 500 meters, with slope ranging from 15% to 45% is estimated to be 21% of the total land area. The mountainous portion which rise up to 700 meters, with slope range of 45% to 65% above, is estimated to be 43% of the total land area.</span></div><div align="left"><br />

<b></b></ol><b></b><b></b><span style="font-family: Arial;">The means of transportation within the city proper are motorized tricycles and pedicabs.</span><br />
<div align="JUSTIFY"><span style="font-family: Arial;">A few people are engaged in the making of sidecars for bicycle. There is no big transportation industry/company in the city; however, there are few auto repair and bodybuilding shops operating in the area.</span></div><div align="JUSTIFY"><span style="font-family: Arial;">The city’s road network consists of 12.1 kilometers of national roads; 12.2 kilometers of municipal roads; and 97.5 kilometers of barangay roads. There are a total of 6 concrete bridges within the city’s boundary.</span></div><div align="JUSTIFY"><span style="font-family: Arial;">The city has two seaports.</span></div><div align="JUSTIFY"><span style="font-family: Arial;">The intercity transport system is primarily served by tricycles and pedicabs. Public transport coming in and out of Danao City are mostly passenger jeepney’s plying the Danao-Cebu route. Passenger busses also pass by Danao City on the way to the northern towns like Bogo from Cebu City and vice-versa. There are private vehicles registered in the City which are increasing in number. Sea transport is provided by about 50 boats/bancas mostly plying between Danao and Camotes Island.</span></div><div align="JUSTIFY"><span style="font-family: Arial;">According to geological surveys (BUMINES), the city has a considerable deposit of minerals. Mineral deposit include coal, dolomite limestone, dolomite, shale and sandstone. Prospects for copper ore have been reported in Barangays Cambubho, Langosig and Sacsac. Coal is mined in the mountain barangays of Dumga, Lawaan, Baliang, Togonon, Cahumayan (Sitio Portland) and Manteja. From the Bureau of mines, Special Projects, series number 20, coal reserve is 2.99 million metric tons. The recoverable coal reserves is still 1.76 million metric tons.</span></div><div align="JUSTIFY"><span style="font-family: Arial;">Aside from the industries mentioned earlier, there are other industries that make the city progressive. Among them are the cottage industries such as ceramics, fiber-crafts, shell crafts, woodcrafts and metal crafts. Pot making (ceramics) in the city dates back several hundred years ago. The skills in this industry have been handed down from generation to generation. Barangay Suba is noted for this industry with about 60 households involved. Presently, the company that is generating employment from the city and other neighboring towns is Cebu Mitsumi, Inc., a Japanese-owned company operating in Barangay Sabang that manufactures magnetic heads, micromotors and condensers.</span></div><div align="left"><br />

</b><div align="JUSTIFY"><span style="font-family: Arial;">The city is being supplied with electric power by the CEBECO II, that gets its power from</span></div><div align="JUSTIFY"><span style="font-family: Arial;">The National Power Corporation. As of 1986, there were 3, 568 households or 28% of the total population having electrical connections. The average monthly energy consumption per household in 1986 was 120,338-kilowatt hours. For the entire city, the average monthly energy consumption including the commercial and industrial establishments was 349,011-kilowatt hours.</span></div><b>

</b><div align="JUSTIFY"><span style="font-family: Arial;">Danao City has its own waterworks system but is available only to the residents in the</span></div><div align="JUSTIFY"><span style="font-family: Arial;">Poblacion, Looc and Suba. Only 30% of the households in the Poblacion are served by the system. About 13% have individual faucets, while 17% are using the public faucets. One of the problems plaguing the system is the water pressure. A great number of households, about 40% are getting water from dug wells, springs, or rivers. Others have artesian wells as sources of water.</span></div><div align="JUSTIFY"><span style="font-family: Arial;">The two major sources of water in the city are the Tuburan Springs and Quisol Springs. The volume of supply is estimated to be 2,254 liters per minute (or 700 gallons per minute). At present, there are 1,221 households having water connections with the annual collections at P490,236.00.</span></div><b>
<li><span style="font-family: Arial;">Transportation</span></li>
</b></ol><b></b><br />
<div align="JUSTIFY"><b></b><span style="font-family: Arial;">Danao City can be reached from Cebu City through the national highways which is asphalted/concreted and widened to conform to the specification of a real highway. This road network reaches all points north and south of the city and is serviced by many transportation companies plying routes, These are barangay roads leading to productive interior barangays.</span><br />

Cebuanos lived in stilt houses made of bamboo, wood and nipa. Men were extensively tattooed and women were lavishly ornamented with gold jewelries, silks and lip color.</div><div align="justify" class="spip">Prior to Spanish colonization, the city was the center of trade in the south, where Chinese ships arrived with silks and porcelains which they exchanged for honey, gold, wood and spices from Mollucas. Unreasonable trade restrictions of the colonizing Spanish caused the rapid decline of Cebu as a trading port. However, in 19th century, restrictions were lifted and brought back the commercial life of the city.<br />
<a name='more'></a></div><div align="justify" class="spip"><br />
</div><div align="justify" class="spip"> The Spanish troops headed by Ferdinand Magellan arrived Cebu in 1521 with a friendly reception from the island villagers. He made friends with Rajah Humabon and converted most of the locals to Christians including the leader’s family. But when Magellan reached the narrow strait to Mactan Island, the reception was not similar. He encountered a negative response and had a hard time entering the area. Lapu Lapu, the chief, resisted his entry and fought against the Spanish troops leaving Magellan lifeless on the ground. Cebu’s invasion was delayed until Legazpi and Fray Andres de Urdaneta arrived in 1566.</div><div align="justify" class="spip"><br />
</div><div align="justify" class="spip"> The historic Fort San Pedro has served many purposes to the Cebuanos. It was constructed in 1565 upon the arrival of Legazpi on the ship San Pedro but remained unfinished until 1738. Originally intended to protect the island from Muslim raiders, the port also served as the barracks and defense post of the US army during the American occupation ; a prison camp during the 3 year Japanese invasion ; the city zoo ; and now a small park. For many centuries, renovations have removed the waterfront lying few blocks from the Fort.</div>iLoveCebuhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18094048208421614024noreply@blogger.comDakbayan sa Sugbu, Pilipinas10.3591887 123.8634544000000210.2396762 123.77939290000002 10.478701200000001 123.94751590000003
